Fort Simpson

Subject: Fort Simpson
We flew in from Yellowknife, pretty flat and barren country, lots of little lakes. Sam and I got quite excited when we saw a hill!
Fort Simpson is a village of 1000 people. Again flat country, at the junction of the Laird and the Mackenzie rivers. We had lunch at the Chinese restaurant, black bean garlic pork ribs for me, it was rather good, then down to the Mackenzie to get some more training in canoeing, which actually was rather useful. Sam and I were together and hopefully we will stay together, we were quite good!
Dinner was a barbecue (with no beer or wine, getting into training) at the Mackenzie Rest Inn which was very tasty. Then we went through our gear and got rid of stuff we didn’t need so are now ready to load our gear onto the Beaver first thing tomorrow to fly up to  Victoria Falls.
Sam and I are staying down the road at Dehcho Suites and have a room each so will shut the door so Sam gets an uninterrupted night of sleep!
We had a walk around town, a lovely evening, great temperature, and no mossies, long may that last.
We all are getting on well. They seem to be a good bunch, 8 participants and two guides. The guides Jason and Luke are great and seem very competent.  What’s more Luke has trained as a chef and assures us that the food is going to be great! So here’s hoping for a good trip.
