Alloette Lake Canoe Practice

From left to right: Peter Mortifee, Judy Village, Jason Kuruc, Judith Pelletier, and Sam Baker

On Saturday, April 28th, the west coast crew kicked off our trip preparations with a little canoe practice on an overcast day at Alloette Lake. We reviewed the forward, the backward, the pry, the J, the reverse J, the draw, the sweep, and whatever other way we could think of moving our paddles through the water. We also learned a bit about the second stability of a canoe and how to make it really turn when needed. It was great to meet our guide Jason, the two members of the team, Peter and Judy, and Judith who works out of the Outward Bound Canada Vancouver office and who has now taught me everything I know about paddling a canoe!
